whats something I can do to further my interest in coding? Looking back I really enjoyed scripting for cod4 because of the instant feedback it provides in that you can see your changes in-game. But, I have no interest in ever playing/modding cod4 again... Any suggestions/ideas?

Just a note i've already dabbled with batch files while i've been in florida. While fun at first, it's very limiting and boring once you try to go more in-depth.

For a real instant feedback with your code I would suggest sticking to the modding route. If you're into Source games then they have this C++ variant that is rather fun to learn and to work with. Although that would mean you would still need to work with 17 year old tools. There is always games like minecraft where the modding ability is near infinite due to it being built on Java so if your missing something you can just make it.
I found while I was programming that working with Visual Studio in C# was one of the funnest things you can do. You can set yourself a task and watch how the application your making evolve around being about to do this task. For me I made lots of CoD tools. Things that took apart the game etc but C# limited me to much so I moved down to C++ but that shit is much more boring because of the complie times and the pure amount of generically filling in all the types to the nth degree. Just my take on C++ Any language in the C family is fun to work with. Hay if you really wanted. CoD5 zombies are great. No server wait times. Full customisation of almost everything. A more advanced engine ( ish ) and the radient is a little better.
