So, recently i have been looking into getting a laptop for school work since i have so much ap work with virtual and actual school classes. However i have been unable to determine what the best choice would be. I only have around 400 dollars for play room. I'll be taking 3 ap classes next year. -__-

I need to be able to:

Have atleast 5 - 6 documents open at once. (word, and excel)

Use Photoshop, and SonyVegas at the same time.

Also, i'd like to be able to hop on and off COD4 every so often.

Also it will serve as a media device for classes, movies, cartoons, anime etc.

Since i've never actually bought a laptop before i'd like to be able to get a second opinion on this.

Here i have 2 that i have been considering.

Either intel with 4GB RAM and a 15.6" screen.

OR

An AMD with a 17.3" screen and 6GB RAM.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/toshiba-sate...&sr=01#one

I'd also like to see if you guys know any good laptops for that price range.

THANKS.

Probably your best bet with only $400. Quad core AMD CPU with 4GB of RAM, + a Radeon HD 7640G, which isn't that bad for a mobile card thats only $400. It's a bit large though, being 17.3". but it's also only 6 pounds. You'll also get a 1600x900 resolution screen with a DVD reader. Only downside is that it's refurbished, but honestly I've never had a problem with anything refurbished and all that really means is that it was broken and somebody sent it back so it got all fresh parts and put back on the shelf. It's brand new, I've never quite understood why people shy away from refurbished stuff, but oh well.

I think you could survive without a dedicated GPU unless you wanted to play cod4 a lot (but you probably won't want to with a trackpad). In my opinion, search for something with a really good CPU as this'll help vegas+photoshop etc.

I found this :sir:

I'm no expert on tech or whatever but I wanted to see if I could help because I think I understand what you need (however you might not even like any of the ones I posted :dave:)

I changed my mind, the one Cat posted it pretty much perfect imo.

-AMD A-Series A8-4500M (1.90GHz) http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=AMD+A8-4500M+APU

-AMD Radeon HD 7640G http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-7640G.69836.0.html scroll down to see the FPS list of some games

It's a pretty damn good laptop for that price doe, the ONLY bad thing about AMD is that their system about speed is quite bad some how, some how the motherboard with the chipset is really slow compared to Intel one's. But hey, buy a cheap SSD and boom it's speed up.

Here also a cheap SSD of 256 GB for 109.99 dollars http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX100-2-5-Inch-Internal-CT256MX100SSD1/dp/B00KFAGCWK/ref=sr_1_7?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1426710170&sr=1-7&keywords=Samsung+SSD

Yeah a cheap ssd that's only a quarter of his entire budget

Who said he needs to buy immediately?................ He can save some money for the next few months by little bit and then buy the SSD.

tbh if that's what he's planning then he should just wait until he can afford a laptop that can do everything he needs

the one cat posted is easily sufficient, although an ssd would be nice it is not necessary

True.

Anyways, my laptop Asus K73SV-TY081V is pretty damn beast as well, see below the specifications:

CPU: Intel Core i7-2630QM Sandy Bridge 2.00 GHZ quadcore

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT 540M, LCD is 17,3 inch so 1600x900 resolution WXGA++

RAM: 4-8 GB RAM DDR3, my laptop got 6GB in it

HDD: 500 GB, pretty low but mine still isn't full so yeah :P

Network: My internet goes more then 120 mb/s, but doesn't mean it got exact the same network card I think, maybe it does got exact the same.

Specs link: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-K73SV.54160.0.html

I think you can only buy this laptop at second hand state what's pretty sad for a such good laptop.

Bosnian, I couldn't find your laptop anywhere to buy on the internet but I would assume it's out of his price range.

Also, most laptops don't allow you to install an SSD inside and an external SSD would destroy the portability.

That is bullshit, if there is a SATA connection then you can install a SSD.

But is the price range within $400? No? Didn't think so, so please, stop bragging about your fucking craptop and stick to the topic and what it's for, he asked for help WITH A PRICE RANGE, not help on what the best laptop is.

Most laptops do allow you to install a new drive, as long as it's a 2.5 inch drive. Laptop HDD's are not really HDD's, they're SSHD (Solid-State Hybrid Drive) They're much more resistant to impacts and are therefore better for carrying around in a laptop as you won't really scratch the disks inside because it's made to be resistant to those, whereas with desktop HDD's if you bump your case a little too hard your HDD fails. All laptop drives, whether they're HDD's, SSHD's, or SSD's are all 2.5 inch form factor, and if it fits it ships. No need to get one though, as I don't think he'll be requiring faster read and write speeds for what he's looking to do.

Oh :o

I was thinking more along the lines as most laptops nowadays don't have removable backs and stuff.

I don't agree, One cheap laptop in my house has HDD, the other which costed slighty more has SSHD, most laptops come with standard 2.5" HDD :dave:

Weird thing is that this cheap laptop has Warranty stickers everywhere and I had to void them to replace its HDD with bigger one and the Acer in my signature had no warranty stickers at all :dave:

Above your price range, but you might find a used one: COD runs pretty good on my Macbook pro, now that I had the logic board replaced.  There's a general GPU failure in the older ones, but Apple seems to be fixing them for free now.
