Compile Bsp - Out of Memory

17 posts in this topic

Hey everyone,

i got an problem with compiling my map on extra, i get the error out of memory on almost 50% without skybox.

i got 3 Huge rooms, if i delete the Walls of the rooms i can compile the whole map on Extra.

screen from the hugeness

on the screen can you see a skybox but if i compile with the skybox i get the error on 31%.

I already tried to compile: without lights, the rooms as prefab, deleting things on the roorms.

Like i said if i delete the walls it is working, i hope there is a way to get it working with walls.

And yes i was searching in google but everything i found didn't work for me.

i thought that the cod4rad64.exe can compile it because it can use more memory but this .exe isnt working, is it only for me?

So please post your suggestion if you got a idea how to fix this.

Thanks and best regards TwiYo

You're saying that you don't have a skybox, though you post a pic with a skybox. So what now?

Radiant itself doesn't even compile your map.

so, the only suggestions i have:

1.Add a Skybox if you don't have one.

2.Make the rooms smaller, there's no need for such huge rooms.

3.Remove useless stuff, like too many lights ( example )

If that doesn't work, then you just have a wooden pc, so just compile it on fast.

and i said on the screenshot you can see there is a sky and with sky it only compile 31%

And the compiler is 32bit and cant use more then 4gb memory.

And trust me it is not my PC it is the software.

And trust me it's not the software, it's the way you're using it.

Well, i just compiled a map on my pc which has 8GB of ram and it compiled fine, you must of messed up your compile tools or something.

I even compiled a big map on my iMac (running Windows 7) using 4GB of ram. Eh

it dosent matter how much ram you have, the software will be still 32bit and cant use more then 4gb thats my problem at the moment and my friend with 16gb ram tried to compile the map and got out of memory on the same %.

Just compile on fast then, i never use extra

You should, will make your maps look nicer

What happens when you disable fast, but don't enable extra?

Then things won't compile like lighting :dave:

I usually compile all my maps on fast, unless im compiling it for the last time, then i switch to extra. I'd still suggest you to make those rooms smaller, or you could pm me your .map file and I'll try to compile it when i get back home that's in 4 hours from now on.

ALWAYS use extra on last release. Only use fast for quick tests.

My ideas

-Cualk your map bro. (the textures that nobody sees so the outside)

-Portal your map bro. (if your map is really detailed inside, look up a tutorial)

-Add lightgrid(s).

-Do you have any big fat lights? Huge lights can cause problems, make smaller lights and space them out.

-How much RAM do you have, you never mentioned .-.

-Are you out of space on your harddrive?

-Make your brushes thinner or split them up, radiant can't handle big brushes.

-Add a reflection probe

-Fix a leak in your skybox (is there one?)

I'm not exactly how big you're talking about so some of the ideas are kinda a long shot but if you show a pic of an ally compared to the walls, we could maybe understand better.

p.s I'm no pro so idk if any of my ideas are worth time, I'd definitely try at least caulk the outside of your map.
