4770/k is poo, 4790k is the CPU you want and befoe Bear gets in here and teaches us how xeons are as gut as i7's, he should keep in mind his xeons are somewhere @ ~3.4GHz while 4790k is @ 4.4GHz turbo by default thus pwning Xeons which have locked multipliers :dave: Problem is you'll need Z97 mobo (i heard some H97 [cheaper] mobos also have OC unlocked but they're rare) Bear face it, you've bought xeon because it was offered to you in a special deal with mobo and gpu and so you are not allowed to speak bad about muh lovely i7 K grade cpus :dave: PS. don't touch i7-4790 (without K), it's a trap

So, me and cousin decided to make a suprice for my brother, who will soon have his birthday :awesome: We've built him a (maybe not too new) but still powerful PC. CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 4 x 2.4GHz (OC @ 3.0GHz) RAM: 3GB DDR2-1066 *1 GPU: currently it uses my GTX 770 *2 HDD: 500GB SATA2 MOBO: Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4 *3 PSU: OCZ 600W *1 - Seeing ram usage of newer games, I'm pretty sure 3-4GB will be enough for him to play every game. *2 - Has no integrated GPU and bro wants to play CS:GO (he's already playing it on my pc and ruining my rank :fff:) I'll convice him to get GTX750 Ti 2GB :dave: *3 - He can install second GPU and configure SLI whenever he wants :dave: Rig is pwetty gawd considering that upgrading it to latest gen (new mobo + haswell refresh [or broadwell] cpu) is not too much of hassle. Some people should upgrade their 9 years old PCs or get a 2005+ sound cards... Try extracting a .wav from one of the iwds in "main" folder, load it in audacity and see it's settings (bitrate, channels, etc) and apply these settings to your wavs. From what I remember CoD4 wavs are most likely: 41xxx KHz, 16bit-pcm, mono, Windows's .wav format.

We're talking about PC with obsolete socket, the thing is that this PC is pretty worth upgrading - for 36$ I get CPU comparable to high-end i3 of the Ivy Bridge generation with more threads and overclocking posibilities. I see no sense in upgrading mobo and faster ram.

Lowered CPU clock to 2.9GHz (it's been too hot at 3.1GHz and I didn't install any good cooler) Added more Ram at a cost... it's now 2x2GB DDR2-800 because it's pretty damn hard to find DDR2-1066 stick at a reasonable price (and a matching timings) so I've decided to go in quantity over speed Got a better PSU which has "80+ Gold" rating. (better than I have in my i7 rig :xd:) Bought AMD Radeon HD5770 1GB GDDR5 for 55$ - BF3 seems to run better than I've expected (720p, AF x8, AAx2, All on High, SSAO off | 1080p, AFx4, All on Medium/High, SSAO off) Here are the updated specs: CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 4 x 2.4GHz (OC @ 2.9GHz) RAM: 4GB (2x2GB DDR2-800 CL4) GPU: AMD Radeon HD5770 1GB (GDDR5, DX11.1) HDD: 500GB SATA2 MOBO: Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4 PSU: OCZ 600W 80+ Gold Now I'm planning on replacing CPU - It's not bad, but I can get Intel® Xeon® Processor E5450 (12M Cache, 3.00 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB) (45nm/85W) for 30$ which is quite a lot faster, cooler and cheaper than Q6600 (65nm/130W) because it's a "server" cpu for socket 771 and it drains too much power by today's server standards. You may notice that the sockets do not match (Currently Q6600 on socket LGA775 while Xeon is 771). There's a trick to 771 cpus to work on 775 mobos using LGA771 to LGA775 Adapter. Pics in spoiler: I can get one of these for as little as 1.5$ so the total cost would be 36$ (shipping included), I may later sell Q6600 for 50$ so money is not a problem ( :dumb:)... problem is that I'm still not sure if my mobo can handle it, In best case it will just work, it may refuse to work without updated microcodes in bios, and in the worst case Xeon is not going to work at all and I'll be stuck with Q6600... I'll be super happy if it works out, still trying to find information if xeons work with my mobo or not, some people say P35 chips have no problems with Xeons but there have been situations where they didn't work :dave:

i7-4790k @ 4.0 (4.4GHz turbo) costs same as 4770k, is newer, cooler temps and stronger... I7s are NOT for gaming, hell yeah they are stronger than i5's but there is no game that uses more than 4 cores... Waste of money, 600W is more than enough for single gpu+i7. You're joking right? That SSD is crap. Crucial MX100 256GB all the way. Verdict: Your build proposal is crap :sir: Cloudy, what the hell you're talking about? :dumb:
