[WIP] mp_dr_highschool (name will be changed)

Hello there, 

 

This is my most recent attempt at making a Deathrun map, I know there's a lot to be desired but lots of the things I have done in this map are the first times I've tried it; for example custom FX. I doubt that I'll actually release this, it's mainly about the learning! Still though, if you see anything you want changed or if you want to see something new please post below. Criticism is welcome as long as it's constructive; don't tell me it's bad, tell me WHY it's bad.

I like the traps and overall idea of it

 

You seemed to have the theme pinned down at start, but then lost it off in the distance while you were finishing the map

 

After the classroom doors, don't exactly see how it would be considered a school

 

Since it's going to be re-named, guess it doesn't matter

 

Anyways, good job on it

 

Also, you have a few typos (Centre for example)

Spot on there, I'm going to change the name. I was having difficulties thinking of school related traps :s I'm thinking of an end room where you have to solve maths equations or spellings or something like that, would be interesting!

That's the idea ;D For once you actually need to have some intelligence to play Deathrun! I'll have several thousand < 13 year olds getting mad at me...

I really like the traps, you should put more red lights at the lava areas though.. to make it look more realistic :P

Thanks for the suggestion! Would anyone happen to know how to get the glowy effect where the lava and wall connect? This part -

I believe it's just the lights placed right next to the wall.

hmm, looks like a texture, try it with "color_red" at Textures > Usage > Tools, or create a custom textures :)

 

Edit: Or do it like lossy said o.o

Looks awesome, but make the map just a tad lighter :D looked dark in the video, and in some parts pitch black.

Not really because there are no scary popouts or gory things in the map.  Unless you are Fearful :troll:

Wow, I'm actually quite surprised. Looks really good actually. For the spinning cylinders trap, you could always make the spinning time randomized, so that it's much harder and not as easy to predict. Then you can use waittill movedone(); before the next cylinder begins to spin, so you wont run into cylinders overlapping themselves. Lighting looks good, FX's are quite cool as well. Good luck on the completion!

Use random everything :>

 

 

Seriously, you can randomize wait times, move times, rotate times, loop times, etc.

I like this map a lot :> the general idea and how you've came up with the traps is quite amazing! :) I hope to see this on Raid.
