Meanwhile I'm sitting here and waiting for Kaby Lake or AMD Zen and Polaris to rebuild my monster :foreveralone:

found an offer of a guy selling 4790k which is stable at 5.1GHz OC on air (with replaced that shity thermal compound under heat spreader) and could have bought it for less than i've sold my 4790k and mine didn't OC so well (4.6 was max i could reach) :foreveralone:

@@Twix i5-6500 is ok, but you could have taken 4690k to get more performance for a little less $$$ :dave:

to all people considering skylake because of DDR4: DON'T (unless you're planning to get a K cpu)!, DDR4-2133 is slower & costs more than DDR3-1600 due to a much higher clock latency and 2133 is all you can use with locked CPUs

Retrospectively I wish I had done that but everything works fine (and low temps) so not too beat up about it.

Didn't realize that, possibly why I got the RAM as cheap as I did.

I could still OC with the i5-6500 if I haven't got the BIOS update, correct?

you can overclock but not by much at all. you wont get any performance boosts

You can OC locked skylakes on certain mobos via BCLK, tell us what's the model of your mobo? Keep in mind Intel is putting presure on mobo manufacturers to remove that ability so some mobos which were advertised as able to OC locked CPUs might need a bios downgrade now.

Seen tests where i5-6500 was almost in pair with performance of i5-6600K, both ran @ 4.5GHz fine :dave:

i take back my statement. I seen now some benchmarks in games and it does indeed boost fps.
