    Also, my map used to hide the other parts in the map because they were all in separate skyboxes but now it draws the whole map all of the time...     If I Recall Correctly, the endmap should work; considering older maps used to replace weapon skins with their own. Not sure though, I'd test it out locally and see what happens.

     

    Also, (another IIRC) pretty sure you cant have more than one skybox in a cod4 map. Again, not sure if i'm right but I kind of remember looking into that sort of thing before.

    Might just be that you can't use two different skybox textures though

    Hopefully I can release it within the next 2 days.

    make sure you eventually show the player again at some point in your script (like round end) because I dont think the mod has any round start functions which show the player. I could be wrong though.

    player hide();

    or

    self hide();

    or

    level.activ hide();

    depending on the context of the script of course.

     

    then when you want them to not be invisible you do a show();

    so if the script were using the context of self it'd be

    self show();

    Combine that with spooky fx being played on the hidden player for extra fun.

     

     

    If you ever download twitch sources you can see how I used the function in trap06() aka the ufo trap.

    @Jwofles

    You should be able to look in mp_dr_twitch's scripts for a way to start/stop sounds. Pretty sure I did something like that but I'm not 100% sure. Just saying a look in there might help. If you find something useful feel free to use it however you'd like. I've never considered scripts to be anything but open-source anyway.

    Also saw someone else recommend adding cherry, idk if this is still a problem but for some reason cherry wouldnt work with newer versions of the deathrun mod, as it'd only work with 1.2.

     

    I dont remember the exact error but it'd take some troubleshooting to get it up on the server

    That's a huge decline from a few years ago.

     

    Anyway if the definition of a dead game is a game without a playerbase cod4 is not dead. However you can hardly say it's got the same active playerbase it's always had. Braxi also made plenty of good points about the state of the game itself. It's riddled with security leaks and hasn't been supported for more than half a decade. Basically think of it like you're using windows xp now in 2016. It's hardly safe and you can really only protect yourself by connecting to servers you know and trust. Add on to the fact that there isn't even an anti-cheat supporting cod4 now and it's kind of obvious why the playerbase just isnt there anymore.

     

    Anyway, circling back to the topic making new mods is all good fun but in my opinion a mod has to be really good and really unique if you want to bring old players back. Because cod4 isn't attracting new players much anymore.

Map quality actually degraded over time, the first maps (exclusing darkness) were pretty okay with good lighting and nice designs not the AAA quality but good enough, I think lots of good maps were made back in the day when mod was still private or during v1.1 (and that was 5 years ago), from time to time rycoon, rednose and foolks at 4GF released decent maps (others too, but that was rare).

     

    So what went wrong you ask? Popularity of the mod took it down and people playing on potatoes who had shitty frames even on darkness, and immaturity of modding scene where pretty much nobody respects others work (stealing of scripts, textures and other crap which wouldn't upset anyone at all if credits were given) you know... if you coded that super awesome and new trap and you see it being used in a diferent map from that other guy who states it's his you'd want to fuck it and leave, some people just ported CJ maps over to DR and added a few traps.

    I think it's also because newbie mappers aren't patient, making a map takes a time especially if you're a noob at it, people will make maps with horrible bugs and shitty graphics just because then they can make a map within a week or less (some were made in 10hours).

     

     

    Pretty much any of the 'good' mappers I knew and spoke to have moved to other games or have no plans to make maps.

     

    I'd say the start of the downfall of map quality started when I came around. I was definitely in that category of nooby mappers you described. Just look back to how awful the original release of mp_dr_darmuh was. Not that darmuhv2 was much of an improvement.
