I use a Mac, and I've been running COD 4 High Jump for years now with no problems (except I can't aim for crap).

Good luck Troll!

You'll be sorely missed! Where are you going to college? (I assume in the US)

Why don't you show us what you've written so far?

Actually, the lazy way is to post your homework assignment on a bulletin board and get someone to code it up for you. :-)

Duke: I've played against you and with you many times, and you're a fine player. If you can control your temper, I think you can be a fine admin. It might be easier to do this as an admin because once you've got the video evidence, the player gets banned. Also, many players do not understand English and may wonder why they keep getting kicked when they're glitching in the rocks on Countdown. Having admins that speak other languages may help. Good luck on your application.

It may not be a problem with maps though. When there are few people playing, the games take forever. Might be better if we could have score/time limits when number of players is less than 6. Some of the bigger maps, like Countdown, exacerbates this.

What, no flush???

Anti went with the worst movie, but there's a whole lot of good ones. Here's my 5 off the top of my head: 1) Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels. An incredibly good film, you can read the memorable quotes from the movie and still laugh your ass off after you've seen it a bunch of times. Forget 'Snatch', which is basically the same movie, not as well done. 2) Wages of Fear - Sorry, it's subtitled, but it's good. And it's in black and white. It starts off a little slow, but it ends up with some guys taking explosive unstable nitroglycerin on a truck across rocky roads, where the slightest jolt could set off an explosion. Why? They need the money. 3) Rescue Dawn - True story of a man's escape from a Laotian prison camp. 4) The Bank Job - Probably Jason Statham's best film. 5) Oldboy - the original Korean (I didn't see the American remake). It's not for the faint of heart.

Congrats to the new admins, now I have to start memorizing your names.

Congrats to the new hacker-slayers. Thanks for agreeing to sign on and help make the server better.

Played with Mega/Jack many times, always a gentleman, even when he's kicking your ass. Good luck, Jack!

I run a couple of commercial servers, so I have an idea what the cost is. Anyway, I've been here about a year or so and freeloading on your machines for that time, so it's long overdue.

Donation sent to help keep the servers running.

Thanks, everyone, and big congrats to @@Kratos, too. I've enjoying the trial time just being able to keep the server out of the hands of the hackers, at least when I'm on. Anti, you've been very helpful and patient with me - thanks for the time you've spent.

Thanks everyone for the election, and all the nice words. I'm very psyched to be part of the team, and to help make the raid servers a great place to play.

@@Anti: You might enjoy the famous review of Wizard of Oz: "Transported to a surreal landscape, a young girl kills the first person she meets and then teams up with three strangers to kill again."

Two issues I'd like to discuss: 1) On occasion, someone might say "Only use shotgun/pistols/knives" etc. I think this is OK for a short time and if there are not many players. The problem with it is that new players join and have to be told "only use knives" and some will still whip out the AK-47. If there are too many players, then they'll be too many who won't agree. Also, doing it does drag out the game, because the number of kills per minute declines, and it takes much longer for a victory. However, I'd like to hear what the general opinions are on this. 2) The other day, I noticed a bunch of guys with CRO prefixes on their names playing (they were pretty good players), but they told people to join the other team so that all the CRO players would be on one team. The people usually complied. While this was good for their team, ultimately they were playing against a pickup team of whoever else happened to be on, so they kicked butt (including mine). What's the general thinking on this? I think if they want to arrange to play as a team, they should contact the admins here and schedule a time when we have players who'd like to take them on, otherwise, I don't think they should use the server as a practice field to the detriment of regular recreational games. What do you guys think?

Thanks for the responses. As far as 1) goes, I was just wondering what the policy was. Often it's an ad hoc kind of thing when there's only 2 or 3 of you in the game, and you're on a huge map like countdown. Still it slows a slow map down more. And then a new player shows up and blasts away. However, it is a good chance to improve your skills with weapons that you don't use much, like shotgun, or even knives. On 2: Just to be clear, the CRO guys weren't insulting, but they were telling people to move, not asking. No name calling, and people just moved over without comment. Lossy, I thought like you did, that they'd be scrambled on the next map, so I was surprised to see them together again on the following map. Maybe they made a jump to the other team when an opening happened. It was pretty busy at the time.

Admin applications: Do you accept the requirements?: Yes What is your real name?: Owen Hartnett What is your in-game name?: OwnyBaloney How old are you?: 62 What is your primary server?: Raid Fun server What is your B3 CID?: 12031 What is your Xfire?: don't use What is your Steam?: don't use What makes you a good admin?: I'm mature, fair, and dislike the way hackers take over a game and ruin it for everyone else. I've played on the fun server for quite some time and started as a COD noob who couldn't move and not get killed to a point where my kills/deaths ratio per game now are greater than 1.0. I currently write code for iPhone and iPad apps for a financial house in Boston. I generally give people the benefit of the doubt until it's a sure thing that they're hacking. What skills do you have?: I have a MS in Computer Science from an Ivy League college. I know very many programming languages. I prefer PHP to Javascript. I play tennis when I'm not playing COD. I also run my own Apache server for my own commercial websites. What clans/communities/forums have you been at?: I was a member of a clan for a short time with the Killing time server for Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Why should we choose you?: You need reliable, fair, calm people to help police the fun server, and keep the fun level high. I play almost every day and there's so many hackers that the more admin presence there is, the better the climate on line will be.

Thanks for all the kind words. One advantage of my age is when the young punks come on and make suggestive comments about my mother, I tell them that she's 86 and that usually quiets them up.

Two made up headlines to news articles: Boomerangs are coming back. Football player dies during sudden death overtime.

Another thing I noticed is that when there are few players, some of the more spacious maps, like Creek and Countdown, (which are both big camping maps) tend to bog down the game. I've been in games with these maps where it's taken a long time with 2-3 players on each side. Much as we get tired of the original maps like district, they accommodate small player counts a lot better.
